Is Pendleton Whisky Made in Oregon?

Pendleton Whisky is partly made in Oregon. But, it's mostly made in Canada. It depends on the specific whisky, but, the distillation and most of the aging typically happens in Canada. The blending, finishing and bottling typically happens in Oregon and includes the all important addition of pure, glacier-fed spring water from Oregon's Mt. Hood.

Pendleton Original Recipe, for example, is distilled in Canada, according to its producer. Water from Oregon's Mount Hood is added before bottling. Its Oregon connection does not make Original an Oregon-distilled whisky. See the official Original Recipe description.

Check the specific Pendleton bottle

The brand sells several expressions with different production descriptions:

  • 1910 Rye: the producer specifies Canadian distillation and aging, 100% rye and a minimum age of 12 years.
  • Midnight: identified as a blended Canadian whisky.
  • 1910 Bourbon: described as straight American bourbon aged ten years. The product page does not identify the distilling state; check the bottle before assigning an Oregon origin.

Use the exact expression's label and producer information. Distillation, aging, blending, adding water and bottling are separate steps; evidence for one does not establish where the others happened. For spelling conventions, see our whiskey or whisky guide.

Why the Oregon connection?

Pendleton's brand story connects it with Hood River, Mount Hood water and the Pendleton Round-Up. Those associations explain its Oregon identity without proving Oregon distillation.

Is there a distillery to visit in Pendleton?

Oregon Grain Growers Brand Distillery, at 511 SE Court Avenue in Pendleton, is a separate producer. Confirm which business you are visiting rather than treating the city's name as the whisky brand's production address.
